Heading to India this Winter? Consider these 4 Cities

Whether to visit family or explore a new part of the world, India has much to offer – especially if you’ve never been before! That said, it can be hard to figure out where to go given the size of the country and the many cities within its borders. Today, let’s go over a few Indian locations that you should consider visiting if you plan on flying out this winter.

Chennai

Chennai is the Indian state of Tamil Nadu’s capital city and one of the most visited by foreign tourists. Many visitors regard it as the safest city in all of India, and Chennai is also renowned for its culinary delights. It produces major films, has a rich musical history, and is home to three rivers and multiple lakes. The Parry’s Corner area is home to splendid Art Deco-era buildings housing shops and local businesses, while landmarks such as the Southern Railway Headquarters offer beautiful examples of Indo-Saracenic architecture. In many ways, Chennai is a striking mix of the old and new, with a healthy mix of museums, art galleries, and performing arts venues giving locals no shortage of entertainment and leisure activities to enjoy. And if that’s not enough, there’s always the iconic Marina Beach – the second-largest beach in the world.

Thiruvananthapuram

Otherwise known as its old name of Trivandrum, the capital of the Indian state of Kerala is obsessed with modernity and technology. It is known for its focus on education and research, with many local institutions and facilities available, including the University of Kerala, Kerala Technological University, and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre to name a few. As India’s largest Southern city, it attracts many international visitors and is well-stocked with activities, landmarks and unique cultural experiences. Particular standouts include the elegant Padmanabhaswamy Temple.

Delhi

As India’s capital, Delhi receives an incredible amount of international traffic annually. There is just so much to see and do here that you’d be missing out if you didn’t stop in here for a few nights! From the massive Lotus Temple to Connaught Place, Akshardham Temple, India Gate, and much more — there’s really something for everyone here. In fact, Delhi is one of the most-visited cities in the world. It’s home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Qutb Complex, Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb. The area also has a massive attraction to sports with professional cricket, football, and field hockey teams.

Agra

Agra is summed up by many foreign visitors in three words: The Taj Mahal. Yes, one of the world’s most famous landmarks can be found in this gorgeous city that rests along the river Yamuna. It’s one of the must-see stops on the famous Golden Triangle Tour – a circuit of can’t-miss sites for visiting tourists seeking the ultimate Indian experience. It’s home to countless tombs, many of which are massive and serve as a resting place of iconic figures such as Akbar the Great. Simply put, if you have a love for history and architecture, Agra can’t be skipped.

Visiting any of these great cities is made easier with plenty of cheap flights to India readily available. There’s never been a better time to get out there and see more of the world beyond your own borders — you’ll be surprised how much it can open your eyes if you’ve never done so before! Experience all the cultural beauty and majesty that India has to offer.
